New Bedtimes and a New Routine

So…anyone who has a toddler or preschooler knows bedtime can be a challenge at times. Our almost 4 year old has had a few challenging weeks in general as he seems to be dropping his nap but not having the energy to make it to bedtime without some serious bouts of cranky. We had some difficulty coming up with a way to move D’s bedtime earlier to compensate for this lack of nap (he was still napping for a good 2 hours the days he did nap!), while keeping the babies bedtime the same. A friend posted a link A Better Bedtime with the idea of letting the kids play by themselves in their room until they decide they are ready for bed….sounds crazy..but worth a shot! So after dinner (around 6) we told D it was time to go play in his room by himself, and that when he came back downstairs it was time for his bedtime snack and bedtime. I was sure it wouldn’t last….and sure enough 10 minutes later he came back downstairs…but since we had already laid out the rules I decided I was going to follow through anyways. So bedtime happened at 6:15…and by 6:30 he was in bed with the lights out…he sang for a few minutes, but didn’t get up (although I am secretly worried that I will find the room destroyed in the morning) and since 6:35 has been silent (it is almost 7:30 now)… Should be interesting to see what happens overnight and tomorrow.

9 Months

9 months. Can you believe it. 9 Months ago we met this little princess, after waiting what felt like forever the 9 months previously for her to be born…these past 9 months have flown by! It’s a bit of a crazy thing to think that 18 months ago she was but a speck…and we have already had to pass on her infant seat that she has grown out of and bought her (hopefully) last carseat that goes up to 85lbs!

20lbs-ish (no doctors appointments lately, or public health visits)
Mostly in 18 month clothes
Full time Cloth Diapers as even one hour in a disposable or using a store bought wipe gives her rash
We are on allergy look out for coconuts and she has shown signs of allergies (super bad rashes) to Ibuprofen.
She is not crawling, but just in the past couple days is starting to try and pull up on things.
Gets up 1-2 a night, but is moving her morning earlier….momma is not too impressed.
Has FINALLY found her sense of humor. Is no longer constantly serious and likes to be funny and laugh at the world around her…especially when she is blowing bubbles!
